3D: Commodore 64 - part 5
Small update on the Commodore 64 3D model, I've been completing the mainboard (some components still missing), and trying to improve the materials and shaders.
Also started texturing the keys, right now the characters are too big and bold, also the graphic chars on the front of the keys needs to be lower.

3D: Queen of the Rocketmen
And here's the main reason of the blog hiatus: CGSociety's Hardcore Modelling Challenge #21 "Queen of the Rocketmen"
From the challenge description:
Despite being fairly new to Maya, I decided to enter the challenge since it's a theme I really like.
And so I started working on a model collection for the challenge and entitled my entry "The Pirate airfleet".
The finished collection includes 4 models, an Airship Carrier, a 3m tall Robot Trooper, a giant Transport Seaplane and a Combat Autogyro.
I't been a great learning experience both modelling my entry, and watch the evolution of the other participants entries.
See all the final renders after the jump...
From the challenge description:
Imagine you have been comissioned to do video games based on the aviation world of the 1930
A world of danger advanture, air pirates, zepellins and crazy air machines... (similar to the Indiana Jonesuniverse, but where Jet packs, giant air machines and robot hechmen area reality)
Join us as the Queen of the Rocketmen and her band of merry men fight the evil air pirates in the air above the South Pacific.

3D: Commodore 64
I've put the Supermarine S.6B model on hold until I get more experience with hypershade, wasn't able to get an aceptable chrome material, and the bump maps just looked horrible...
I'll do a model with more simple materials, a Commodore 64 computer.
My goal is to made a highly detailed and accurate model, including the circuit board.

Learning Maya
I have decided to improve my 3D modelling skills but I can't go much further with Truespace.
So after trying several programs I choosed Maya 8.5.
IMHO it seems to have the more balanced and easy to learn UI, compared to Lightwave, 3DSMax or Blender.
True to my style (style? what style?), instead of starting with something simple and then move to more complex models; I decided to make a 3D model of the Supermarine S.6B seaplane.

After a couple of weeks working on and off this is what I have so far:
Modelling is done, now I'm fighting the UV maps
